Elipse Power ADMS
A platform for distribution network management, focused on the increase of productivity and efficiency, optimizing and controlling the network assets.
Smart modules, such as Self-Healing and Schematic View, complement this solution by supporting the decision-making process and improving maneuver and switching times.
Features
- Self-Healing module: automatically reconfigures the distribution network to supply as much customers as possible, minimizing the impact of an energy fault
- Schematic View module: automatically generates simplified views that makes it easier to understand the network topology, leading to quicker, more assertive operations
- GIS import/synchronism tool: enables a unique registry for each device, ensuring information integrity and reduction of maintenance costs
- Multiprotocol platform: allows integrating several distribution IEDs, taking full advantage of pre-existing legacy systems and devices
- Topology Processor: a ready-to-use algorithm applied to operation diagrams. Performs the line coloring dynamically, enabling the operator to analyze which circuit paths are energized or not
- Reliable electric registry: integration with other enterprise systems (GIS, OMS) ensures a safer operation, by reducing the chance of human errors in the configuration time
Benefits
- Improved reliability indicators (e.g. SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI)
- Reduced operational costs in field crews
- Low cost for maintaining and integrating to other systems
- Preserves earlier hardware investments
- Enhanced operational security

To manage several network operation and maintenance aspects, power distribution companies rely on specific systems such as SCADA, Call Centers, OMS (Outage Management Systems), and GIS (Geographic Information Systems). These systems can be provided by different suppliers and information exchange among them is crucial to cope with daily challenges.
Integration with geo-referenced systems (GIS) allows the network topology to be automatically upgraded, which ensures that the devices to be operated are quickly identified, therefore saving field team time and resources.
Integration with OMS enables identifying non-automated switches statuses, which allows the module to consider the best grid paths available in real-time, according to the grid topology state.
Sometimes, a geographic view of the distribution network is way too complex to be interpreted. When it comes to operators having to act quickly over an event, this isn’t the best interface.
A simplified schematic view of the network is required; however, to draw a secure and reliable view of this type demands a lot of time, thus raising the engineering costs of the project.
This module has the function of automatically generating simplified schematic views that allow operators to visualize feeders in a more intuitive way, which leads to quicker, more assertive operations.
By integrating Elipse Power with the company’s GIS database, it is possible to detect if any cadastral changes affected the veracity of the current schematic diagrams, avoiding representations that do not reflect the actual electrical system. This process guarantees greater security in the maintenance of the operation screens of the SCADA system.
Power outages cause service interruptions, financial costs, and the deterioration of quality indicators. Restoring maneuvers, on the other hand, may cause undue re-energizing, putting both field teams and the society in danger. Therefore, solutions that mitigate the problems caused by fault effects are essential. A dynamic electric modeling performed by the Elipse Power platform, allows executing the Self-Healing intelligent module, which is capable to automatically isolate and restore the grid loads.
Elipse Power Self-Healing module works to maintain as many energized loads as possible after any grid fault has taken place. By isolating the problem and restoring service in alternative ways, this solution is able to make quick, autonomous decisions that reduce service interruption and the number of de-energized customers significantly, which in turn impact the quality indicators.
Based on the grid model analysis, the operational limits on each device are checked before and after the Self-Healing module has performed, in order to evaluate the best set of restoring actions to be taken that will not violate the system capacity. In addition, since the system topology can be significantly altered by the actions taken by this module, profiles are expected to be modified in order to make sure the protection is coordinated.
