On December 9 and 10, 2015, Ricardo Alexandre Diogo, PUCPR’s Control Systems Engineering major coordinator, taught a mini-course on Elipse E3, Elipse Software’s SCADA solution, to UVic-UCC’s Enginyeria Mecatrònica students in Automatización Industrial I. This course was only possible due to an agreement between UVic (from Vic, Catalonia) and PUCPR (from Curitiba, Brazil).
The agreement allows students from both universities to get a double degree in Control Systems Engineering and Enginyeria Mecatrònica. To do so, students have to spend three semesters in exchange at the other university, with validation of 100% of their curricular matrixes. This partnership also allows for professors to travel to the other country for agreement revision and activities expansion purposes. In 2015, the activity proposed by the agreement was this course on SCADA using Elipse E3.
The mini-course was 5 hours long, and it focused on setting up domains and projects with Elipse’s software, as well as communicating with the Festo’s teaching stations from the automation lab, which are equipped with Siemens S7-1200 PLCs. During the meeting, the students created a few tags for visualizing digital and analog input statuses and also activated some digital outputs.
After that, they configured animations on screen and remote commands. Finally, the students were shown personalized solutions that involved programming PLCs and commissioning industrial and SCADA networks to Festo stations, which were a part of their program at Automatización Industrial I.
